more bread

walnut bread

So, even though I purchased the unused bread maker at the thrift store I still went ahead and
made this bread by hand the other day.  I made tomato soup and needed something
to go with it.  After reading Meg's post I decided to make this bread from the link
she provided.  This bread is very yummy! So yummy (especially right out of the oven) that
any old knife will do to cut into it--who cares about locating the serrated knife--and waiting
for the soup to be done.

some vintage finds

some vintage finds

We began this past Saturday bright and early because we wanted to
get some fresh eggs and other items from one of our
local farmer's market.  We then headed to some yard sales
where I found this great books called Please Don't Eat the Daisies.
I'm a great fan of Doris Day and have seen this movie many times so I was excited when
I found this book for 25 cents.
Next stop a couple of thrift stores.
Well, I found these great children's sewing patterns, a roll of  vintage cotton rick rack (I love rick rack),
some vintage perle cotton and vintage trim. Really great finds, but then I found this
current Amy Butler sewing book (which I've wanted to buy-but haven't) for two dollars!
This made my day--but get this--I found this unused bread machine maker for ten dollars.  I've been
making my bread by hand, but had wanted a bread maker and finally got one.
I'm a very happy camper.

outdoors

outdoors

Daisy and I headed outdoors--she explored around while I sat and continued with my knitting.

Of course, we both made sure we were careful as to where we were stepping--looking out
for our small baby creature friends.

spud and chloe

spud and chloe

I just discovered Spud and Chloe yarn.
As soon as I got home with my yarn bundles I couldn't help, but start on this scarf.
I wish you could feel this very soft yarn, which is wonderful to knit with.
It's made in Peru and is a combination of wool and organic cotton.

pillow of peace

pillow of peace

I was about to leave my local fabric store when I spotted this really great fabric from Michael Miller.  I bought a yard of it and decided I was going to make a pillow out of it--so this is my next project.

The peace symbol reminds me of things from my childhood when my family and I lived near Berkeley and how I enjoyed looking at hippies with their peace signs and great clothing--and thought how great they were.

Although, I've worked with cross stitch this is my first attempt at this type of embroidery.  I had fun, it didn't take very long and it was something different. The design came from the book
Embroidery Companion.

small mccoys

Small plants finally repotted in these McCoy planters I had stashed.

small mccoys

They seem pretty happy with the extra room they have.
